Absolute security does not exist

What is certain is that, mathematically speaking, there is no absolute security. The security is influenced by many factors, especially human behavior and nature which sometimes have, each for itself and overall, the character of unpredictability. Marphy's laws still apply. However, this is no reason to not invest in safety. If the hazard cannot be avoided, it does not mean that it should not be prevented or its consequences mitigated.

According to some indicators, the investment in security (costs on that basis) in our average company does not exceed 1% of the total cost of operations. However, in western companies that amount is 4-5%. They know that the contribution of investment in security can be up to 30% of total income. How is this accomplished? First of all, by predicting the risk - security issues and taking reasonable, optimal measures to prevent them, or if it is not possible to mitigate the consequences. The practice shows that this claim is usually not accepted immediately. Company management usually "fails to see" the danger. They are exposed to the constant pressure to cut expenses and they "cut" where they "fail to see" the need. And when they "fail to see" it then it probably does not exist. Therefore, in practice, it is often the situation that the problem first occurs, damage has been done, and then it is invested in security.

That is why most production companies in our country have only physical security. It usually consists of low-paid, unmotivated people, often disabled workers, or those where the management was not sure what and where to allocate them. Some believe that implementation of technical protection systems, most often video surveillance or time and attendance recording, permanently solves the problem. Of course that is the illusion.

In times of economic crisis, where each dinar saved is more than useful, we need to ask ourselves: Can that (theft, fraud, the outflow of information, sabotage, etc.) happen to us? Those who say - that will not happen to us - still believe that there is absolute security.
